“As always, our jury was faced with a difficult task,” remarked Randazzo. “We received over 70 terrific submissions from which these 8 finalists were selected. Now comes the fun of casting and rehearsing, as we prepare for the festival”.

All finalist are from the Gulf Coast community. Many have been recognized within local theater circles, some regionally and nationally.

This year’s festival will be held at the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe Theater at 1646 10th Way in Sarasota. Performances of the ten-minutes plays will be at 8:00 pm on April 6 and 7th. There will be a Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm and winners will be announced at that time. Tickets are $15.00.

There are roles for all ages, male and female.  Additionally, there are some specific roles for teenage boys around 18 years old.  The audition is a cold reading from selected scripts. Please bring a headshot and resume.

The Odyssey Ten-minute Play Festival will take place April 6-8 at the West Coast Black Theatre Troupe location.

Festival Artistic Director, Catherine Randazzo will handle all auditions.

Presents Love Letters a one-act play by A.R.Gurney

Love Letters is the story about unrequited love between two people whose relationship is through letter writing over fifty years.  Starring in Love Letters are Laurie and Fred Zimmerman.

Love Letters will be performed on February 11, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at The Manatee School for the Arts, 700 Haben Blvd., Palmetto, FL. * Tickets can be purchased at the door, $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students.

From the south: take Bus. 41/301 to the north exiting at the ramp for 301 N. which becomes 10th St., take a right at the Haben Blvd. traffic light to the entrance on the left for Manatee School for the Arts (approx. 1/8th of a mile).

From the north: take 301 to the east from downtown Palmetto or to the west from Ellenton. Turn south on Haben Blvd. & follow directions above to the theatre.

There is no cost for a playwright to submit one (1) play. If a playwright chooses to submit two (2) plays, the author must include a check to Theatre Odyssey in the amount of $15.00. If a playwright chooses to submit three (3) plays, the author must include a check to Theatre Odyssey in the amount of $30.00.

In addition to the foregoing,eligible playwrights must reside in the Central Gulf Coast of Florida Area (approximately Tampa Bay to Ft. Myers) and the playwright must agree to be present at the award performance (Sunday, April 8).

The winner of this year’s Festival was Walton Beacham’s Stormy, which received an award for being the Best Play as well as a $250 cash prize provided by the Executive Producer of Theatre Odyssey’s 2009 season, the Longboat Key Club.

Paul Argentini’s “The Ordinance” was named Best Play, while Larry Parr’s “A Line of Malarkey” was named Runner-Up. Additional kudos go to CeCe Dwyer (“Changing Partners”), Bernie Yanelli (“Justice Here, Justice There”), Connie Schindewolf (“14 Hours”), Lorene Erickson (“Road House”) and Lisa Evans (“Taste”), for their wonderful scripts – all of which provided audiences with a fine evening of live theater.
